Laser Hair Removal Safe for Face

Laser hair removal can be safely performed on your face and our MedSpa patients are loving the results! Most commonly, facial laser hair removal is performed on the chin, upper lip, beard area, eyebrows, and sideburns. Other common areas for treatment include the bikini area, armpits, and legs.

How does laser hair removal work?

The procedure itself is quite brief and requires fewer treatments than other forms of hair removal such as electrolysis. A handheld device emits a highly concentrated beam of light, or laser, which is then absorbed by the melanin (pigment) of the hair. From there, the light is converted to heat that damages the hair follicle and prevents regrowth.

What are the risks?

As with most medical procedures or medications, the risks vary from person to person. However, the most commonly reported side effects include:

  • Skin Irritation including redness, swelling, and discomfort after treatment.  Typically, this is very minor and will self-resolve a few hours after laser hair removal treatment.
  • Pigment changes to the skin can occur, lightening or darkening the skin color of the treated area.  This is most common when you don’t avoid exposure to the sun before treatment.
  • Blistering, scarring, and changes to the texture of skin are some other risks, however, these are in rare instances, according to the Mayo Clinic.
