Since 1970, the lifesaving contribution of blood and platelet donors has been recognized during the month of January. This helps raise awareness during winter, which is one of the most difficult times of year to collect blood donations, due to busy holiday schedules, bad weather and seasonal illnesses.
Donating blood saves many lives, and according to the World Health Organization, “blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life.”
